Kamui Whisky K.K., Japan’s northernmost whisky distillery, is located on the remote volcanic island of Rishiri. We are surrounded by natural beauty and swept by the intense, salty winds of the Sea of Japan. Our whisky embodies Rishiri’s unique terroir, with pristine water from Mt. Rishiri-Fuji at its heart, filtered through volcanic rocks for years before emerging in natural springs. Our water is sourced from our local spring. This mineral-rich volcanic spring water gives our spirits a distinctive sweetness and purity.

Our Kamui Genshu is an un-aged, flavor-led expression that offers a clean mouthfeel with a subtle sweetness and a nautical finish, reflecting the spirit of Rishiri itself. Every batch is painstakingly distilled through our custom stills from Kentucky. Stills with particularly long necks. Our distillation process emphasizes purity and lightness, resulting in a truly unique single malt.


Our Unique Terroir
Each sip of Kamui Genshu tells a story of resilience and passion. Our unique location, meters away from the ocean, perched on volcanic rock cliffs, brings a nautical, salty taste from the constant winds. The winds come in force, picking up the natural tastes of our surrounding ocean, dropping in the umami from Konbu (kelp), for which our Island is famous. The water has for decades been filtered through the volcanic rocks of Rishiri picking up unique flavours. All of these elements, plus our passion to make the finest whisky, cutting only the choicest of hearts makes for a special spirit.
